A SHARED MISSION
The nature of Tusk’s work sees their rangers operating amongst wildlife in the most challenging and inhospitable terrains imaginable. These rugged landscapes and harsh conditions demand new levels of strength, toughness and capability. That’s where Defender makes the difference.
Tested to the extreme, Defender is designed to withstand the most punishing conditions — from the plunging temperatures of the tundra to the sweltering heat of the African savanna. It is this in-built strength combined with innovative all-terrain technologies that makes Tusk’s seemingly impossible mission, possible.
THE FRONTLINE IN THE FIGHT FOR CONSERVATION
The 14 000-hectare Borana Conservancy in Kenya is a sanctuary for Africa's most iconic wildlife, including species teetering on the brink of extinction, such as black rhinos and lions. With lion populations plummeting from 200 000 to barely 20 000 in the last century, enabling organisations like Tusk to operate effectively is critical. Here, Defender emerges not just as a vehicle, but as a vital asset in the fight against extinction.
Tailored to the challenges of wildlife conservation, the Borana Conservancy Defender features an integrated raised air intake and distinctive camouflage paint to ford rivers and tow heavily-laden trailers seamlessly and discreetly. Helping to observe and track lion prides within the reserve, it played a key role in replacing a malfunctioning tracking collar on a male lion – protecting the ranger while he sedated the animal from close range in the safety of Defender’s cabin.
This enduring partnership has not only affirmed Defender’s unparalleled durability and capability in the face of nature's most formidable challenges but also its commitment to a cause far greater than itself.
